Cable Rear Delt Fly
In the cable rear delt fly you sweep your arms out and back with the two cables crossed in front of you. The cables keep steady tension on the rear delts from start to finish. It suits every level and is a great alternative when the reverse pec deck is busy.
Main muscle: Rear delts · Helping: Upper back · Equipment: Cable
How to do it
- Set both pulleys at shoulder height and cross the cables: left hand holds the right cable, right hand the left
- Stand in the middle with your arms out in front and your elbows softly bent
- Sweep your arms out and back until they line up with your body
- Return slowly until the cables cross again
Common mistakes
- Squeezing your shoulder blades hard so the back takes over from the rear delts
- Bending and straightening your elbows so it turns into a row
- Going so heavy that you lean back
More tips
- Light weight and full control; the rear delt is a small muscle
- Breathe out as you open and return slowly
- You can do one arm at a time, holding the machine with your free hand
